Brown Butter Chocolate Chip Cookies

Brown Butter Chocolate Chip Cookies

Recipe

Yield: 10-12 cookies

Ingredients

– ¼ cup unsalted butter

– 3 tbsp granulated sugar

– 3 tbsp brown sugar

– 1 egg yolk

– ½ tsp vanilla extract

– ¼ tsp salt

– ¼ tsp baking soda

– 1/2 cup + 1 tbsp flour

– ⅓ cup chocolate chips + extra on top (optional)

Instructions

1. Preheat oven to 350 F (180 C) and line a cookie sheet with parchment paper

2. In a small saucepan, add the unsalted butter and place over medium flame. Allow the butter to cook on the flame for around 1 ½ minutes, until the butter has melted and become brown. The butter should release a nutty, caramelized scent.

3. Watch closely during the process as the butter may burn quickly. Allow to cool slightly before continuing

4. Pour the butter to a medium-large bowl and add in the sugars. Use a fork or whisk to mix all the ingredients together until combined

5. Add the egg yolk and vanilla extract, then mix once again until incorporated

6. Add the salt, baking powder and flour and gently fold into the mixture until just combined, taking care not to overmix

7. Add the chocolate chips and gently fold until the chocolate chips have been distributed. Once again, DO NOT overmix the dough.

8. Divide the dough into 10-12 even balls of dough and place on the parchment paper, making sure to leave sufficient gap between each of the dough balls.

9. Bake in the preheated oven for 9-12 minutes, or until the tops are golden brown. The cookies may feel extra soft, but they will firm up once cooled down so do not over bake the dough.

10. Allow the cookies to cool until warm enough to handle and enjoy 🙂
